"Works of art are viewed by people. They are heard by people. They are felt by people. They are not just the fodder of a close-knit group of initiates. They are the soul food of all people."
- L. Ron Hubbard
Message from the Director
I hope everyone is enjoying the lovely fall weather. This newsletter relates closely with taking on your true beingness as an artist. Today this is more vital than ever. As early as 1951, Mr. Hubbard states in Science of Survival, “The artist has an enormous role in the enhancement of today’s and the creation of tomorrow’s reality.” No matter how talented, artists seldom make their living and receive fair exchange for their artistic works unless they have workable administrative and organizational tools to fall back on. With fierce competition in the marketplace today, understanding marketing and promotion of your art is also vital to success. That’s exactly where EMA Artists USA comes in. I urge you to become part of our movement.

Featured Artist of the Month: Joel Morris
Instead of retiring when he turned 65, Joel started drawing. It was a time of life to change (again) and do something he'd never thought of doing before. There is very little in the world that doesn't arouse Joel's curiosity, calling for a closer and more studied view. Joel likes to portray what he sees on paper to share with others. As Joel says, "Much of the world is the beauty we put into it. I enjoy contributing to that."
Please tell us a little bit about your art business.
I had been drawing and painting for a few years and had garnered admiration for my work from various family, friends and acquaintances. I had toyed with the idea of selling my art, but having owned and run businesses in the past I knew that would be a lot of work. Luckily I had a conversation with Leisa Collins, director of EMA Artists, and she encouraged me to join the group and get started. I did exactly that and my business continues to grow.
In general, how has the use of Mr. Hubbard's administrative technology impacted your business?
Knowing what to do in a business is paramount. The administrative technology of Mr. Hubbard makes it very clear what the important components of a successful business are. In the day-to-day activities of being an artist it is easy to become dispersed and not accomplish anything at the end of the day. But by keeping my attention on those points Mr. Hubbard explains my business has a good foundation and can expand from there.
What piece of Mr. Hubbard's administrative wisdom have you found particularly helpful in making your business successful?
The information on goals, policy, programs and targets has really helped me. It is one thing to think an idea, but then you have to do the right actions to make it really happen. The materials in the administrative technology show what all of the key parts are, how to put them together and how to use them. If a particular goal isn’t achieved it is simply a matter of reviewing all of the steps to see what was missing or not done properly. If you do what the materials say you will get the result.
As a successful art business owner, is there one really valuable tip that you would like our readers to take away with them?
The key to being an art business owner is to really recognize that you are a business. Even if you are an organization of one – yourself – you must devote time and work to your business in addition to making or performing your art. The administrative technology of Mr. Hubbard gives you the know-how and direction to make your art business a success.

J.K. Stephens
Author J.K. Stephens is preparing to release the fourth novel in her Dreamers series. Dreamers is fantasy SciFi set in the early days of space exploration when new technologies mingle with the echoes of legendary civilizations and new freedoms cross swords with old tyrannies.
A Missing Song tells what happens when two people undertake the search for a ship lost outside the boundaries of current exploration and find they are pulled into a wider and more ancient search, right into the teeth of vicious opposition.
Some reader reviews for the Dreamers series:
“…a joy to read just for the quality of her writing, but even more so for her imaginative story-weaving.” DD
"This will appeal to young readers and adult readers as well…packed with great characters, adventure, fantasy, wisdom, humor and more.” TK

Roger Harrison
Roger Harrison performs with his band, the Harrison Jazz Ensemble, in the Tampa Bay FL area. They perform as a jazz trio, quartet, or even as a solo one man jazz band throughout the general area, from Sarasota to Ocala and all the way out to Orlando.
Roger strongly believes in first discovering the client's vision and then executing it precisely. This philosophy drives every interaction and performance and is embraced by the entire team.
Here's some amazing feedback:
"The trio of musicians arrived promptly to set up and our guests thoroughly enjoyed their performance! We requested a nice blend of Christmas favorites and traditional jazz. It was perfect!" - JC
"Roger and his ensemble made my husband's surprise birthday party a hit! They were very much a part of the festivities and we enjoyed their versatility!" - JE
You can find out more about Roger and his Jazz Ensemble on his website, as well as Instagram, Facebook and YouTube.
Misha Crews
Misha loves writing books that make adults feel like kids again, and she definitely pulled this off with her latest bestseller, Be My Boo. Described as "Scooby Doo meets romantic comedy," this sweetly spooky novella tells the story of two people who get stuck in a haunted house on Halloween, along with a stray dog named Boo.
Be My Boo became an Amazon bestseller in the categories of Paranormal Ghost Romance (#1 bestseller), Mystery Romance (#2 bestseller), and Cozy Animal Mystery (#5 bestseller), and won an Amazon All-Star bonus in October, making it officially recognized as a "book that delights readers."
