Featured Artist of the Month: Misha Crews

Misha Crews believes that stories have the power to connect people, illuminate hidden corners of the human experience, and bring a little more wonder into the world.

Misha is the bestselling author of atmospheric, character-driven fiction blending romance, mystery, family secrets, and the occasional ghost. Readers have called her work heartfelt, compelling, and impossible to put down. Her most recent novel, One Secret Summer, reached #6 on Amazon’s Women’s Romance Fiction list. She is also a four-time winner of the Model of Admin Know-How Award. Misha's work reflects her love of small towns, complicated relationships, forgotten histories, and stories that remind readers there is always another adventure waiting around the corner.

Please tell us a little bit about your art business.

I have always loved stories and the way they can transport us, comfort us, surprise us, and help us see the world through someone else’s eyes. Writing gives me the chance to create those experiences for other people, which is what I love most about it. And readers are at the heart of everything I do. There is nothing quite like hearing that a story connected with someone, made them laugh or cry, or gave them a place they were happy to escape into for a while.

I approach my writing as both an art and a long-term creative business. I’m involved in every stage of the process, from developing ideas and writing the books to overseeing covers, marketing, launches, and reader outreach. One of the things I enjoy most is creating a direct relationship with readers through my newsletter and social media, where I can share not only finished books but also glimpses of the creative process behind them. My goal is to keep building a body of work that is both creatively satisfying and sustainable for the long term.

In general, how has the use of Mr. Hubbard's administrative technology impacted your business?

Mr. Hubbard’s administrative technology has proven to be an ideal framework for a business of any size. As my career has grown and the demands of running a creative business have become more complex, I’ve found that virtually any administrative question I encounter is answered somewhere within the Hubbard Management System. It has given me practical tools for organizing, planning, evaluating, and expanding what I do, and it has been one of my greatest allies as I’ve grown both as an artist and as a businessperson.

As a successful art business owner, is there one really valuable tip that you would like our readers to take away with them?

Inspiration is important, but consistency is what builds a career. Develop habits and systems that help you keep producing even when inspiration is elusive. And never stop learning. Every stage of growth will bring new challenges, so be willing to seek out answers, acquire new skills, and become as dedicated to growing as a businessperson as you are to growing as an artist.

You can find out more about Misha and her work on her website, Instagram, and Facebook.

Artist Members in Action

Leisa Collins - Architectural Art

Guests gathered at the historic L. Ron Hubbard Landmark Site in Elizabeth, New Jersey, for the unveiling of the Leisa Collins Historic Preservation Award recognizing the restored home of author and humanitarian L. Ron Hubbard—the very place where the global Dianetics movement, now spanning more than 200 nations, began in 1950.

In 2013, Leisa founded her Historic Preservation Award to honor exceptional individuals and organizations dedicated to saving and restoring historic buildings across the country. The award consists of a framed original pen-and-watercolor painting of the restored historic home.

As Leisa explained to those gathered, “I have been deeply impressed by the extraordinary care, craftsmanship, and attention to detail that have gone into the restoration of this remarkable L. Ron Hubbard Landmark Site. Places like this do more than preserve buildings. They preserve history. They preserve ideas. They preserve inspiration for future generations.”

See article in the New Jersey City Buzz and for more information about the event see Leisa's Blog Post.

In My Heart

’Tis said

the wild horse

runs free.

Yet…

A wild horse

resides

in me.

His singular

beauty,

His spirit—

free.

His thundering

energy…

’Tis captured

In me.

The

Wild Horse

within

my heart.
