Effective Management Association Newsletter - September 2026

"To evoke an emotion in fine arts, the spectator must be invited to contribute part of the meaning."
- L. Ron Hubbard
Message from the Director
YThe theme for our newsletter this month is evoking an emotion with our art. Let’s take a moment to consider what message we want to relay through our art, in order for others to receive that message and in turn, contribute to it. Whether it’s paint on canvas, notes in a melody, words on a page, or pixels on a screen, the act of making something from nothing is pure magic. In a world that often focuses on outcomes, it’s easy to forget the beauty that lies in the process — the moments when ideas flow and when experiments surprise us. Every brushstroke, sketch, or creative spark is a reminder of our ability to imagine, express, and connect.
Let’s keep inspiring each other and celebrating not just the finished works, but the creative journey itself. And most importantly, let’s inspire each other regards the actions we take to share our final art with others, so they too can experience the joy we felt when creating it.
Keep creating, my friends.
– Leisa Collins
Featured Artist of the Month: Katie Dean
Katie Dean is the founder and designer behind Katie Dean Jewelry, a Clearwater, Florida–based brand creating handmade, coastal-chic jewelry designed to bring a little beauty and sparkle to everyday life. In this interview, Katie shares more about her creative journey, her brand, and the inspiration behind her work.

Please tell us a little bit about your art business.
Hi! My name is Katie Dean and I am a jeweler that specializes in dainty gold layering necklaces, rings, bracelets and earrings, all handmade in America.
In general, how has the use of Mr. Hubbard's administrative technology impacted your business?
It helps me to catch things that would slip through the cracks, which is vital. Instead of waiting for things to get off track, each week I look at the vital statistics that plainly show where the business is at and then I make adjustments. Helps me keep my eye on the prize!
What piece of Mr. Hubbard's administrative wisdom have you found particularly helpful in making your business successful?
Hands down the Conditions Formulas. They keep me on the straight and narrow so I can stay focused on what I need to change, or sometimes more importantly what I should not change that will as a result keep my statistics going up.
As a successful art business owner, is there one really valuable tip that you would like our readers to take away with them?
Stay consistent with your promotion and marketing. Whenever I have veered away from consistently promoting my products, my sales have gone down. Don’t get significant, just do it and communicate!

Artist Members in Action
Rachel Rausch-Johnson, Photographer

Rachel Rausch-Johnson is a photographer and artist with a gift for capturing people with warmth, honesty, and beauty. For her “50 Over 50” project, Rachel photographed 50 women over the age of 50 and brought their portraits and stories together in a special gallery exhibition celebrating this season of life. Women arrived as strangers and left feeling connected, while families were deeply moved to see their mothers, daughters, and wives celebrated exactly as they are. A highlight was the panel discussion, “Is There Life After 50?” which struck a chord with both women and men in the room. The evening also raised more than $500 for SR3, the sea life rescue organization supported by the raffle.
Doug Crowder, Author

Doug Crowder is an author with a fascination for Atlantis, time travel, and the mysteries that connect past and future.
