"TECHNICAL EXPERTISE is composed of all the little and large bits of technique known to the skilled painter, musician, actor, any artist. He adds these things together in his basic presentation. He knows what he is doing. And how to do it. And then to this he adds his message."
- L. Ron Hubbard
Message from the Director

Featured Artist of the Month: Curt Strickland, Playwright
Curt Strickland is a playwright, essayist, landscape photographer, and a former owner of Great American Art, one of the largest commercial art companies in the nation. As he says, "I believe, and I write with the idea that plays can change the world. I seek to change the world."

Please tell us a little bit about your art business.
I am a playwright and have had many productions of my plays produced over the past two years.
Recently I was awarded best play of 2024 for my play 1968 by the William Faulkner Literary Competition. My play, Speed Dating, has been performed in over sixty theaters over the past two years. I was recently appointed Visiting Playwright for 2026 at the Kingdom Theater in Harlem, where three of my plays will be performed: The Dowry, Speed Dating, and Landscaping. Speed Dating will also be performed this fall at the Short & Sweet festival in Hollywood. It has given me stable data. I never wonder what to do to expand my playwriting business. The EMA Artist Group business course has given me certainty in my marketing and my writing.
What piece of Mr. Hubbard's administrative wisdom have you found particularly helpful in making your business successful?
The policy on outflow, and conditions. I probably outflow more than any other playwright I know. I keep stats on my outflow, which is number of scripts sent to theaters. If I’m not getting productions, I double my outflow.
The conditions are my stable datum. It takes the confusion out of decisions in promoting my work.
As a successful art business owner, is there one really valuable tip that you would like our readers to take away with them?
Master your craft. I work on my craft daily, in other words, be a professional, which LRH talks about in his ART BOOK. There are fundamentals in that book that applies to any art form. For me, I write every day and I work on my craft.
You can find Curt at his Website, Curt's View, his Photography website and Amazon.
Artist Members in Action
Astrid Reeves, Artist

The season has been a busy and exciting one for vibrant abstract painter Astrid Reeves, who has taken part in several shows. About her most recent exhibition, she shared the following:
I had the pleasure of returning to Ann Marie Arts Fest this year. Last year was my first year and I absolutely loved it. Being on a wooded path that wanders through 30 acres of forest is absolutely lovely. This year I had several repeat customers buy more art from me which is so validating.
Each show that I do is a learning experience. I analyze what works and what doesn’t using the LRH admin tech and then implement changes for the next show.
For example, last year at this same festival, it poured with rain overnight. I thought I was safe because everything was safely stowed away in my tent. However, what I didn’t account for was the puddles of water that accumulated in my tent due to the uneven ground. It was a complete mess and no one likes to view art standing in muddy puddles. This year, I implemented firm policy to prevent this situation from ever occurring again.

Inspired by the experience, she created her first painting of Cartagena. “The walled city is a magical blend of history, architecture, culture, and vibrant local life,” Leisa shared. “This painting features the Cartagena Cathedral, one of the oldest churches in the Americas, built in the 16th century, and offers a glimpse of the city’s distinctive architecture—both historic and modern.”
